Errachidia → Merzouga → Errachidia
A 2-day desert tour from Errachidia, ideal if you fly into Errachidia airport: drive through the Ziz Valley to Merzouga, ride a camel into the Erg Chebbi dunes and spend a night at a desert camp.
We're still finishing the details on this page. Ask us and we'll send you what's included, the timings and the price in writing.
Round trip: starts and finishes in Errachidia (airport or city). We can also drop you in Merzouga. Just ask. Custom tour
Errachidia is the closest airport to the Sahara, so this is the fastest way to see the dunes if you fly in. Your driver meets you at the airport or your hotel and takes you south through the Ziz Valley, Erfoud and Rissani to Merzouga.
In the late afternoon you ride a camel into Erg Chebbi for sunset and spend the night at a desert camp. On day 2 you watch the sunrise, visit Khamlia and its Gnawa musicians, and drive back to Errachidia in time for your flight or bus.
You can book it as a private trip with your own vehicle and driver, or join a shared tour with other travellers. If you need to end somewhere else, back in Fes for example, we can set that up as a custom tour.
Day 1
We pick you up at Errachidia airport or your hotel in the morning and drive south through the Ziz Valley, with its palm groves and gorges, to Erfoud and the old caravan town of Rissani.
In the late afternoon you ride a camel into the Erg Chebbi dunes for sunset. At the camp there is dinner, music around the fire and a sky full of stars.
Stops: Errachidia · Ziz Valley · Erfoud · Rissani · sunset camel trek
Day 2
Get up early for sunrise over the dunes, ride back to Merzouga and have breakfast and a shower at the hotel.
Then we visit Khamlia, a village known for its Gnawa music, and drive back north to Errachidia, to the airport or your hotel, in the afternoon.
Stops: Sunrise over Erg Chebbi · Khamlia · Rissani · Errachidia
You travel in an air-conditioned vehicle with an English or French speaking driver, about 300 km in total over the two days.
1 dinner at the camp and 1 breakfast are included. Lunch is not included
Yes. Your driver meets you at arrivals with a sign. Send us your flight number.
It is enough for a camel trek, a night at a camp and a sunrise. If you want more time in the dunes, add a night.
On a private tour the vehicle and driver are only for your group, and you choose the start date. On a shared tour you travel in a minibus with other people on set dates. Tell us your dates and we'll go through both options with you.
Yes. It stays in the vehicle while you're at the camp. Just bring a small bag with what you need for the night in the desert.
Yes. Tell us their ages when you ask for a quote. Young children usually share a camel with an adult, and on a private tour you set the pace.
