Same dunes, same stars, simpler comfort
Our standard desert camp in Merzouga is a traditional tented camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes, with dinner, breakfast and a campfire. It's a good-value way to spend a night in the Sahara.
We're still finishing the details on this page. Ask us and we'll send you what's included, the timings and the price in writing.
A standard desert camp keeps things simple. The tents are traditional, made of woven fabric or canvas, with beds or mattresses, blankets and rugs. In many standard camps the bathrooms are shared: a separate block with toilets and showers a few steps from the tents. Some camps do have private bathrooms, so ask if that matters to you.
You don't give up the desert, though. You arrive in the late afternoon and climb a dune for the sunset. Dinner is shared with the other guests, and afterwards everyone sits around the campfire, often with drums and singing. There's very little light around the camp, so on most nights the sky is full of stars. In the morning you can watch the sunrise before breakfast.
If you'd rather have more space and a proper bed, have a look at the luxury desert camp. To help you decide, read luxury vs standard desert camp or how to choose a Sahara camp.
Facilities vary by tent and season. We'll tell you exactly what your booking includes.

For most travellers, yes. It's simple, but clean and practical, and you spend most of the evening outside by the fire anyway. If a proper bed and a private bathroom matter to you, the luxury camp is the better fit.
